Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences (IHS)
Research at IHS is program based and we sponsor 6 large-scale programs. The number of principal investigators and their researchers has been over 100 in total. Their publication output has been prodigious. Besides scholarly articles in leading, international journals, such as History and Theory, American Economic Review, Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Politics, Journal of Democracy, Electoral Studies, International Journal of Public Opinion Research, Asian Survey, The Counseling Psychologist, American Journal of Comparative Law, etc., they published a total of 134 volumes in 7 book series, including Series of Studies in East Asian Civilizations, Series of Studies in East Asian Confucianisms, and Series on Humanism in the Era of Globalization (published in Germany), all pioneering the new domestic and international humanities and social science field of East Asian Studies. Besides the journals published by IHS, Taiwan Journal of East Asian Studies (THCI Core listed), and Dao: A Journal of Comparative Philosophy (AHCI listed), co-published with the Association of Chinese Philosophers in America and produced and distributed by Springer Verlag, IHS promotes a vital “Visiting Scholars Program.” To date, the number of local and foreign “Visiting Scholars” hosted by IHS has reached nearly 200.
